about
‘conjurer’ arrived nearly fully formed the morning after a long phone call with a friend. written with the intention of comforting them, the song quickly became just as much a comfort to myself. it proved to be a crack in the wall after a long period of feeling isolated and creatively stuck. for a brief moment i was allowed to reach my hand through some barrier and return with these words in my grasp. -matthew
lyrics
The body, as the river
Is bending, forgive her
And the spirit now as water
Is pulling still further
Great Heron, Grandmother
Your children and my father
She's rearranging them, returning them
As stars and peach blossoms
And they're reflecting, no they're shaping
A cattail moon crescent
And it seems Saturn, she's drifting
Between us, listening
Conjurer, shapeshifter, pale blue mountain
Conjurer, shapeshifter, pale blue mountain
And it's too known now to name it
There's a language and you will speak it
Silently and prophetic
Synchronized, magnetic
And your body, limbs twisting
There's no taming what's not broken
And your spirit, now you are learning
Is an ember still burning
Conjurer, shapeshifter, pale blue mountain
Conjurer, shapeshifter, pale blue mountain
